"Got Milk?" California Milk Processor Board

What Can You Learn From These?

You don't have millions to spend on institutional advertising, so why do I even bring these up to you?

Because they're memorable. Those you recognized immediately have worked. Those you recognized and new what the PRODUCT or SERVICE was worked WELL. And those you knew the product, service, AND who sponsored it work VERY well.

Keep that in mind when building your own slogans or graphics to work with your materials.

Oh, and one more thing: repetition really DOES work! YOU get tired of your own materials MUCH faster than your prospects, clients, and customers do... so keep with it for a while: changing your look, statements, logos, slogans too quickly leave a prospect confused, and a "Confused Mind Always Says NO!"

Lessons for Life - Optimists Have Longer, Happier Lives

You Can Control Your Thoughts - And You NEED To Control Your Thoughts

Right before I go to bed, I write in my gratitude journal.

Some days I have TONS of things to write and some days I struggle to get all 5 that I write each night.

Some days have been like that: routine, hard work writing at the computer, lots of time exploring my own thoughts without sharing much time with others.

And some days I'm out among loving, caring people and I overflow with thoughts about how grateful I am for life.

But we each need to remember that it's the small things that add up to MAKE our lives.

My Kids Tease Me About My Calendar

I also keep special, recurring notes in my electronic calendar... times when Liz auditioned for a show, when Stacie started a new job (most recently at City Year - a GREAT national organization based in Boston - see City Year by Clicking Here!), when Pam had a happy time at work or with our family, and then lots of small moments for me and friends - anniversaries, when children were born, when I photographed weddings, bar mitzvahs, or opened one of the many theater productions I've directed over the years.

OK... so I have a few things like when we received a cat, the birthday of our dog, etc. (My kids say I have things like when our dog first pooped or our cat first hid under the sofa - not quite, but amusing to look at life like that).

It never ceases to amaze me how QUICKLY time has passed from one year to the next to five years to ten years. And without this calendar, I would forget those special moments and be able to relive the happiness they brought me.

We really CAN control our own moods, our thoughts, how we see the world, and it's vital to our health that we do that.

Liz Teaches Me A Lesson About Our Moods When We Wake Up

I've known for a long time that when I go to bed happy, I wake up happy.

I saw this first-hand when my younger daughter, Liz, needed some oral surgery... even the doctor told us this: however she is feeling when the anesthetic puts her to sleep, that's how she'll wake up.

Liz was REALLY nervous about having surgery under her tongue, and wouldn't you be too? She's a singer and if whatever her problem was caused too much damage in her mouth, taking it out MIGHT affect her vocal chords and her singing. (If you've heard her singing, you'll know that the surgery came out OK - Hear Liz Seymour Sing On Her New CD - Click Here!)

Liz's nervousness turned into tears as she was put under, and when she awoke with the ranula removed, she was VERY upset and in tears.

There is a life lesson here - how we go to sleep affects how we wake up. And how we wake up affects how our day goes.

"As goes the first hour of the day, so goes the day," a marketing guru friend of mine used to preach.

Wake up happy, refreshed, grateful for what you have and you jump out of bed and into your work.

Go to bed angry, upset, down on yourself, and you'll struggle to take any positive action during the next day.

The way YOU want to approach the world, get things done, find your dream and pursue it? Make sure you have positive thoughts, attitudes, lessons all around you. Those alone can't create the success you're looking for, but without them, you'll be mired in self-pity and stuck in the mud on the road to success.

Twitter For Business - Using The Twitter Effect To Help YOU

Instant communication using Social Media can help, or hurt, a business

This is not a surprise for those of us working in Social Media Marketing, but it's still a surprise to me to read this.

I really have to chuckle: Hollywood is all a buzz about The Twitter Effect.

Where the heck have they been?

Don't they have anyone on their staffs who understand Social Media?

(OK, I admit it: I ALMOST said "don't they have anyone on their staffs under the age of 30, but since I passed that milestone years ago and clearly know how to use Social Media, I won't continue that stereotype any longer!)

Newspapers Tell About Hollywood's Fear Of People Who Send Tweets

Did you see this article in your local paper? (You DO still read the newspaper, right? If Baby Boomers are part of your market you should - THEY still read papers almost as much as they read online information.)

The headline was, "Hollywood a flutter about the 'Twitter Effect.'

It's as if Hollywood producers just woke up.

Didn't they see all the reports about Iran's election when the population sent messages around the world? Don't they believe the reports that people like Proctor and Gamble (you can't get much more "main stream" and "institutional" in advertising than P&G) are using Social Media. Don't they see that the "kids" are using text messages in the THOUSANDS each month, going one on one with their friends... and then using the same texting technology to use Twitter to go one to MANY?

So... what is Hollywood so afraid of?

YOU. Me. And THOUSANDS like us being able to communicate freely and within seconds of discovering what we like or dislike.

WHY are they so afraid and what happened to make them stand up and notice?

Website - Make Yours Work Hard For You!

Internet Marketing - Using Your Website To Make You Money

How does someone get to your website?
Traffic You Control, Traffic You Don't Control

Have you ever thought about the traffic that comes to your website... not everyone came from the same place or for the same reason.

Perhaps they did a search on Google (or other search engine) and something from your website caught their attention in the "organic search results" in Google - you know, where the search results appear on the left side of the Google Search Results.

I call that traffic you don't control. Google "spidered" your website, indexed whatever it found, and listed you in their giant database. Interested people will click on the search result and go wherever Google sends them.

This is Traffic You Don't Control.

However... if you send out a tweet with a link to somewhere on your website, send out an email with a link embedded, or publish an article with a specific link embedded in the article, this is Traffic You Control.

NEVER send Traffic You Control to the head of your website: ALWAYS send it to a specific location INSIDE your website so that the interested person will go EXACTLY where s/he intends to go. You will eliminate much confusion this way.

Dynamic vs Static Websites

I cringe when I see the "old-style" websites - you know, those places where you arrive at the front page, have no idea what the site is about, and they expect you to know which button to press to learn enough about them so you can make sense of what is in front of you.

And most of them are static, hardly ever change, and though they may be graphically appealing, they don't help the visitor and they don't encourage Google either.

Google LOVES dynamic information on a website, so keep yours active and refreshed.

What's The Biggest Problem With Most Websites?

Most websites are created by graphic designers who don't know marketing. But even that isn't the biggest problem with most websites.

Most websites are created without a Clear Goal In Mind.

What do you want your website to DO?

With most of my clients, they generally are building an email list, so THEIR goal is to capture the name and address of the visitor. Period.

Not convince them you are a genius. Not sell them three of your best products. Not to amuse or entertain them.

All of those are FINE goals, but YOU must define the ONE goal of your site and then be sure you meet it.

What Should You Do To Hold A Visitor?

Here is a quick list that should help your visitors once you get them to your site (getting them there is a whole other topic!).

1. Always have a headline that calls out to your visitor. The NAME of your site or YOUR name means no more to any of them than Joe's Bar and Grille means to you. Give them a statement in a headline to tell them why they are at your site and what you want them to do.

2. Offer something immediately - and it's best if it's free. A free downloadable audio. A free report in pdf. A free with shipping offer. GIVE something so you get their name and email address. THEN let them see more of your website. Most people search the internet for information, not something to spend their money on... so show them that YOU have that information and give it to them - when they want MORE, they can get it from you (and by then you will have their name and email address so you will be staying in front of them). NOTE - If you are a site where people go already expecting to buy something (like QVC, Staples, Amazon, etc) the rules are different because people DO want to purchase - give them a chance with very few clicks!

3. Ask for as little information as you really need. JUST getting an email address is easier than and email address and name. And email address and name are easier to get than email address, name, physical address. Start where you know you want to begin, and that is, at a minimum, getting their email address.

4. Take as small a step as you can when someone first comes to your site. Think of it as a conversation between two attracted people. Clearly you wouldn't see the person of your dreams and say, "Will you marry me?" But that's what LOTS of people do to people first coming to their sites: they want TOO much information and they ask the visitor to take a big leap of faith, trust them, and buy from them. Hey, it's not IMPOSSIBLE to sell to someone the first time s/he visits your site... but it's MUCH more difficult.

5. Be different, stand out from the crowd, have people remember you and your site. Be sure not to use the same template that everyone else in your industry uses - people want to work with people, not a carbon-copy of someone else.

6. Have a Welcome and a Welcome Video. Say hi to people when they join your site. Realize that lots of people view your website at work and often work does not allow speakers, so you need a text message there too. But welcome people, tell them quickly what your website is about and how they can use it, and then get their name and email address.

7. And one more thing: check how your website looks in a variety of web browsers. For my OWN websites, I find that close to 40% of the viewers still use the very old Microsoft Internet Explorer 6... and with today's advances, that old browser doesn't correctly process all the new advance techniques. So check to see how you look to avoid any bad curb appeal.

There are SO many more things you can do... but these 7 are a good beginning.

Hope this helps.

Blogging - How Julie and Julia Can Inspire You!

Blogging - Find Something That Excites You And Start Writing!

I LOVE going to the movies. I enjoy theater, I enjoy DIRECTING theater, I enjoy musical theater most - but MOVIES really take me away like nothing else.

They transport me, make me think, help me laugh and cry, and make me feel great just as I need them.

Have you ever stopped to think WHY you see a certain movie when you do? WHY does it draw your attention at that very moment? WHY do you feel compelled to see it? Why does it call out to you, make you reach for your wallet, and then get you to empty a large portion of your wallet for the ticket and refreshements.

Especially in this Worldwide Economic Meltdown of 2008 - 2009 - why do movies call to you?

Education? Adventure? Some laughter or tears? A way to clear your mind and take you away from what you're working on if even for a few hours?

Julie and Julia - Bloggers Unite!

My wife, Pam, and I saw the movie Julie and Julia starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, and I thought I should blog about it.

It is a movie about the life of Julia Child AND the life of blogger, Julie Powell in writer-director Nora Ephron's adaptation of two true stories: Julie and Julia by July Powell and My Life in France by Julia Child.

The story lines are interwoven and the two never meet, being separated by time and locations. (The way the story is told reminded me of Cabaret which was originally written as two stories (inside the Cabaret and then the story about Sally Bowles) which was meshed together by legendary director-producer Harold Prince like the fingers of your hands when clasped together.

Julia is the world-famous American chef and Julie is the completely unknown blogger in the early turn of this century when blogging wasn't really known. (I admit that MOST people STILL don't know what blogging is, but since you are reading this YOU do... but in 2002 or 2004, I have a feeling you didn't know what it was!)

Why focus on this movie in this blog?

Because Julie found something that interested her and she started writing. She didn't know if she'd find an audience, she didn't search thousands of keywords, she didn't probe deeply into Google to see if she'd gain traction: she just started writing.

And NOW look at her success.

My parents, in their late 80s, love the movie and so did Pam and I. I, however, saw it on a much deeper level from my other family members: as a blogger, podcaster, and consultant, I felt what Julie was going through when writing to an undefined audience. I felt her pain of doing it day after day. I shared her triumph when the NYTimes discovered her and let the print-world learn about her.

See the movie if you need a pick-me-up... it's bound to give you a bit of cheer just when you need it.

Unemployment - The Bad Economy Can't Keep You Down!

Unemployment - You never forget that time you were fired

When did you last think: "Someone PLEASE, Take Me From The Rat Race"?

Is it time for you to pick yourself up and get out there again... this time on your own?

What Newspapers Tell Us

The Philadelphia Inquirer is probably like a lot of newspapers in the world - understaffed, losing money, trying to stay afloat.

And as it does, it features a series of articles about Being Fired. Well, that's not what THEY call it; their title is Jobs At A Loss - Upheaval in the Region's Job Market but believe me, those PEOPLE who are listed as statistics know what it is: they've been fired.

The Headline is:

The ax falls, and then what?

The article by Inquirer Staff Writer Alfred Lubrano is filled with statistics and anecdotes. And it's filled with one more thing: pain.

Human pain.

Human suffering when 13.2 million people in the USA are unemployed (that only counts those still looking for work - those who have given up don't count, it seems) and 210,000 in our immediate 8-county area.

"But while the Philadelphia region is papered with pink slips, a layout can still hit with the potent surprise of an unforeseen meteor."

It has been known for a long time by psychologists that being fired is as difficult on the individual as a death in the family, divorce, or other traumatic, stress-producing situation.

And what goes deeper is what happens to the individual, and it's repercussions are long-lasting.

"Shame, fear, and panic can barge into a person's head after the initial trauma."

People have pointed out that in this Great Recession people who thought they were recession-proof are now on the unemployment lines - in Philadelphia, as an example, a major law firm collapsed and closed. (And when I was selling investment real estate in the 80s and 90s, this was THE real estate law firm.)

Where Did The Dream Go?

I've often written about and created a video about The Dream - Where Did The Dream Go? It's gone for many people.

We were told to grow up, do well in school, select a major carefully, specialize, earn a good living, get married, raise 2.5 kids, help them grow well, get married, and the circle continues.

We did that, but things have come crashing down for many people.

Savings, Never Done Well By Most Americans, Evaporate

401(K) accounts are half what they were only 8 months ago. A friend say he now has a 201(K) and my good friend Neil Radisch (with whom I wrote "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" as a major musical) wrote me on Facebook that he now has a 4.01(K).

I know the pain there, with my own IRA dropping 50%. Even some recent turn arounds haven't helped much.

The Dream may still linger, but the funds to make it happen are gone. (For now, at least.)

Personal Memories Never Die

The reason I started this website (and the business to support it) was because of the terrible crushing pain that many people feel when they are fired. I want to help.

Having faced it twice myself, I know the lasting, deep-seeded pain that lingers.

I still have images of my younger daughter, while she was in middle school, crying with covers pulled up over her head when I arrived home having been fired and saying, "They stole your dream, Daddy."

That's the last time I worked for someone else.

Oh, sure… being a Work at Home Dad has its tough parts too, but never again will my family suffer like that.

I started a whole business to help people who were fired, unemployed, thinking about working from home.

See if this movie, which I created, speaks to you: Take Me From The Rat Race - Click Here To See Short Movie!

What can I do to help YOU?

Salesmanship - Present Yourself Well To Win New Business

Selling Yourself Comes First - THEN the Product or Service

You are ready to leave the rat race... others have been fired, unemployment is still climbing, new assignments aren't flowing into your company, and who knows: YOU might be next to be fired.

It's a scary time out there.

And as the saying goes: It's a RECESSION when others are out of work; it's a DEPRESSION when YOU are out of work.

Let's stay away from the DEPRESSION. Being a part of the Great Recession is bad enough.

Did you ever hear the story about the blind men and the elephant?

The first man touched the elephants trunk and described it as a flexible, long creature.

The second man touched the elephants tusk and thought it was a very hard, smooth, upward-pointed animal.

The third touched the elephants hoof and thought it was a large, flat, very heavy creature with several smooth places (the tone nails).

And the fourth touched the tail and thought it was a short, pliable snake-like animal with hair at the end.

Each one "knew" the elephant for what his experience told him... and each was correct, but only PARTIALLY correct.

The same is true for YOU... whatever you show your prospects is how they see YOU and the work you do.

Be confident, they see confidence. Be a great salesman, full of knowledge, and they see a knowledgeable salesman. Be their adviser and advocate, and they see someone on THEIR side of the table who is there to help.

Be a wimp, and they see someone they don't want to do business with again.

If you are looking for a job, looking for employment, looking for a way to start your own business, be sure that what you show to people is the side of you that you want exposed.

For just as the blind men of the story thought they knew the elephant, people you come in contact with THINK they know you.

Be down, be loud, be obnoxious even ONE time, and it resonates with those who come in contact with you. But be UP, encouraging others around you, seeing the bright side... and that can work magic on people.

The northeast of the USA has had lots of rain. I often hear people say, "Ugh... what a horrible day." But what if we had no rain? What if the plants stopped growing? What if it were hot, muggy, and gardens were withering? Wouldn't the rain look pretty good THEN?

So LOOK for the good and then present yourself well to win new business. Keep your spirits high, see the good in what (and who) is around you, and you will win in just about everything you do.

Now... get going!

And by the way, are you blogging yet? Are you telling the world through online methods what you are about and why they should be doing business with you?

I hope so... people coming in touch with you will be pre-sold if you let your words and videos tell part of your story for you.

Find your niche expertise and get busy... let others FIND you, rather than YOU knocking on their door - they will be MUCH more likely to hire you (whether as their consultant or their employee)!

Best,

Be Your Own Boss - Don't Look Back

Be Your Own Boss - Create Your Own Work At Home

OK... so your dream is gone, you want to get out of the rat race, and you know that only YOU can pick you up and get you moving. The economy has turned south, it languishes, and really doesn't show any sign on improving.

Well, small signs, but are they signs that impact you directly?

If you're like most people, the answer is no. You see some signs on the evening news or in the paper, but nothing affecting YOU directly... yet.

So, what are you doing to be your own boss, to create your own work at home, to set yourself up to become a successful entrepreneur?

How do you start?

My suggestion: set up a blog right now. Blogger is ok - clearly I think highly enough of it that I am using it; having your own WordPress website is even better.

Find out what you are passionate about and start writing - every other day at least.

Is it photography? making a specific product? creating software? teaching others how to do what you used to do? And as you narrow your focus so people learn about you, you'll find work to do from your home as an entrepreneur.

The writing will be therapeutic (helping to clear your brain and focus your emotions) AND people will learn about you through the information you write (just as YOU are finding out about me right now!).

Have you thought about working for yourself for a long time? Did the Worldwide Economic Meltdown of 2008 - 2009 thrown you out onto the trash dump of the unemployed with nowhere to turn? No hope right in front of you? No fast lane to the success you've dreamed about?

Well you DO have somewhere to turn and you're learning about it right now.

Watch this short movie to see if you relate to it: Take Me From The Rat Race - Click Here To Watch!

You CAN do this, it just takes some practice and some advice. Heck, you didn't finish school without some serious work, did you? You couldn't do your previous work without someone talking things through with you, right? That's what's needed now too.

Find someone you admire who's succeeding where you want to and follow him or her: now is the time to change your life and get things going again.

And it all starts with your understanding where you ARE and where you want TO GO. And then you must take ACTION.

Again, watch this short movie to see if you relate to it: Take Me From The Rat Race - Click Here To Watch!

Then sign up for our free electronic newsletter and get thing going!

Blogging - Businesses Need This Help

Business Blogging Will Help You Leave The Rat Race Behind

Search Engines (read that "Google," especially) LOVE fresh content.

Currency matters.

Oh, sure: money, coins, bills they matter too, but in THIS case I mean BEING current when I say currency.

And that's what blogs help you with: being current.

The blog you are reading wasn't difficult to compose. Oh, sure - I had to think about the message I wanted to deliver to you; I had to plan out the path I would take you down when I wrote here; I had to even decide that Blogging or Writing A Blog would be my topic for today, but once I did, the information flowed from me.

Why?

Because I'm an expert in blogging and the details come easily to me (and details will come easily to YOU when you write about something you know and are passionate about).

WordPress is my favorite software.

Oh, I can hear you say now, "But Charlie - you're writing in Blogger, not in a WordPress blog - what gives?"

THIS blog is in the first Power Circle that surrounds my main site. My main site is created on WordPress software which is the most popular blogging software in the world. I create ALL my main sites with it.

And then surrounding that website, pointing into that site, are other social media sites like this one pointing into that website.

What do I mean by POINTING?

I mean a text link with keywords like this one: Blogging For Business - Listen To Charlie Seymour Jr's WalkAbout Marketing Audio Blog - Click Here!

OR... let's say that I want you to go directly to my written blog. Blogging For Profit - Charlie Seymour Jr's Blog Is Here - Click Now!

So now I have great information in THIS post and this post shows you where to find MORE information from me, helping both you AND Google find my work.

A blog works hand-in-hand with your regular website, which I've already said should be written on WordPress software. Not only will Google appreciate it, but YOU will be in charge of your site and will be able to make changes to it without being an HTML scholar.

I created a HUGE website once and even when I found a comma out of place, I had to ask the designer to go into it to fix it. Disastrous!

So... get blogging for your business. And make people AND Google pay attention.

Best,

Business Marketing - Dave Dee and Alexis Martin Neely Show You 5 Steps To 6 Figures

Leave The Rat Race With This New Way Of Creating Your Business

I’m a marketer and have been marketing ever since I left Wharton Graduate (of the University of Pennsylvania) in 1975 with my MBA in marketing, management, arts administration.

Hundreds of millions of dollars in personal sales. A billion or more dollars through my marketing skills. And a life-style that allows me to select the type work I want to concentrate on.

OK... so I USED to work in the corporate world, but I left and have never looked back!

And since earning my formal degrees, I’ve been a student every day – learning from the best people I can find.

Two of them are Dave Dee and Alexis Martin Neely. Learn About Dave & Alexis Newest Information – Click Here!

I am mentioned in more of Dave’s products than any of single individual. I was just listening to another of his very helpful products about email marketing and he mentioned me quite prominently and read some of my materials. He has done that on other occasions too.

Why is that?

Dave and I share a love of learning: learning from success, and then sharing those successes with others.

And I pay him when I learn from him. And he pays me when I help get people to learn from him. We know that what we pay for, we appreciate even more, and we work hard to use the information we learn.

Like me, Dave & Alexis help business owners, like you, who've already figured out how to bring revenue into your core business; leverage your business SYSTEMS, processes, and intellectual property; and then take what you’ve learned to help other people.

And if you learn how to do it and work at it, you can turn your “sideline” business into a 6 figure (or more) profit center within your business (by packaging the way you do things in your own business and licensing your way of doing things to non-competitors in your industry).

In this season of Independence Day, this could be the start of REAL independence in your life.

Here’s what I’ve learned through Dave & Alexis:

* The exact five part blueprint you can use immediately to generate a huge cash flow surge into your new side profit center...Four of their students had immediate cash flow surges of $75,000, $63,000, $34,000 and $15,000 last month - the very first time they implemented the 5-step formula!

* How your side profit center will re-ignite the passion you once had for your business. (Remember how you felt when you first started your business? Now you can experience that excitement again because you will help others do the same thing!)

* How to uncover the six figure products that lie hidden in your business. Yes, right now you have untapped assets you aren't even aware of... Stop to think about that: how many things do you do in your business that other people would LOVE to know how to do! You uncover those assets and then learn how to turn them into big profits. Systems and methods you use now are valuable to other people.

* How to move beyond the income ceiling you've either already hit (or are about to hit) with your current dollars-for-time trade-off. Let’s face it: there are only 24 hours in every day, so earning money THAT way MUST produce a limit. And even if you've moved beyond an hourly billing model, as long as YOU are YOUR PRODUCT (and let’s face it, most of us sell ourselves as our real product), you're going to hit a ceiling on your earning capacity very quickly.

* The very best parts of sharing your information and knowledge with others in your industry has very little to do with the money (that's gravy!) - the best part is the fulfillment you experience when people thank you with tears their eyes for your helping them to do what they do better and more efficiently. Imagine being in a meeting away from your office and someone thanks you in front of your friends and colleagues because your help meant so much to her. Believe me, that re-ignites your energy and you know why are you put on this earth.

* How this side-profit business will not only give you the freedom to work less - a LOT less - but also to work from home or from anywhere in the world - and even retire faster than you ever dreamed possible (if you want to). And in this economy of “Where Did The Dream Go,” you will now see a NEW DREAM around which to build your life.

* The very first step you need to take that virtually guarantees your success when coaching others in your industry - almost everyone misses this step and it costs them dearly.

* How to escape forever exhausting one-to-one selling and move to the exhilarating experience of selling one-to-many and making a major impact on thousands (or even millions) of people's lives.

* How to turn your initial success into an ongoing, autopilot revenue stream. (How would it change your life if you had an additional profit center in your business that produced high six figure profits each year - year in and year out - while you slept?)

* How to break through into a new business model that will take your business to the next level and finally give you the freedom and independence you've been looking for while at the same time bringing back all the passion you once had for your business.

Work At Home Dads - You Can Still Make Your Dream Come True With Some Help

You CAN Create A Work At Home Business For Yourself - With Some Guidance

As a kid you had a dream. Oh, sure... maybe it started as a fireman, policeman, mail man... but it started way back then.

You saw what people were doing and you wanted to copy them.

Movie stars, sports figures, business people.

And maybe you had one of those "hey, kid: what are you going to do when you grow up" chats with one of your parents.

I remember the one I had with my dad when I was about 10.

“If you work hard enough, you can have anything in this life.” Good grades, good schools, work hard and it will all be yours.

And perhaps you... as you were graduated from high school, then college, and pursued that six-figure job, “work hard, play hard” became your mantra.

Nothing ever got in your way as you climbed the corporate ladder and pursued the American Dream because you were strong, you were focused, you knew what you wanted and wouldn't let anything get in your way.

Until now.

That pink slip in the paycheck of some close friends was like an electric shock to your heart. Sure, you knew the economy was lousy. You knew thousands of other people were losing their jobs.

But it wasn’t supposed to happen so close to home. And would you be next?

Your life was all planned out!

Get an education, get a great job, marry a wonderful woman, and raise a terrific family. Take memorable vacations to exotic locations. Send your kids to top colleges, and enjoy all the sentimental, inspiring moments of your childrens’ budding lives while simultaneously saving for your retirement, where you and your wife would waltz off into the sunset of old age, reflecting on the deep meaning of your lives together.

BZZZZZZZ! Dream over! What went wrong?

After making lots of money for your company and repeated assurances from your bosses that your job was solid, they thanked you for all your hard work by firing you!

And they had the nerve to say it was nothing personal, “just business.”

But it is personal.

What should you tell your wife and family? What about your mortgage, your health insurance, your retirement fund? How can an entire lifetime of blood, sweat, and tears be destroyed in minutes?

On February 6, 2009, CNN.com reported, “Employers slashed another 598,000 jobs off of U.S. payrolls in January, taking the unemployment rate up to 7.6%... The latest job loss is the worst since December 1974, and brings job losses to 1.8 million in just the last three months... the biggest 3-month drop since immediately after the end of World War II. The unemployment rate is now at its highest level since September, 1992.”

Where did the dream go? Worse yet, how can you recover in this difficult economy?

CNN goes on to say, “Friday's report also showed that 2.6 million people have now been out of work for more than six months, the most long-term unemployed since 1983.”

And that number only counts those unemployed who are still looking for work!

Like so many other successful, capable, hardworking men thrown callously onto the heaping human landfill of unemployed Americans, nothing could be more frightening.

You have no answer for your wife when she looks at you with fear and panic in her eyes.

The thought of starting over with another employer, if you can even find a decent job, almost makes you sick to your stomach.

What can you do to pick up the pieces? Experts suggest those who have the innate ability to recalibrate their goals and dreams have a better chance for survival. Think about it. You have incredible skills and a lifetime of achievements! Maybe you simply need to rethink how to use your talents.

Working from home is the right answer for millions. According to the New York Times, “Democratic pollster Mark Penn’s new book, Microtrends, notes that 4.2 million Americans now work exclusively from home (a nearly 100 percent increase from 1990).”

But as we know from the rapid evaporation of the American Dream, you need a realistic plan.

If you’re ready to think about a new journey toward personal and financial freedom, look here: http://TakeMeFromTheRatRace.com

Your time is now... don't stop!

Email Marketing - Just Do It

Good Techniques For Email Marketing Start At Home

They are over here now, cleaning up for their wedding engagement portraits.

My daughter, Liz, and her fiance, Chris.

ONE MORE THING Liz gets me to do. Does she REALLY have me twisted around her little finger?

Maybe. But here's how she got me to agree to photograph her and Chris. (I pointed out to my wife that this is the FIRST wedding engagement portraits I have ever done without being paid... but then again I'm paid in so many other ways here in my family.)

Liz emailed me.

She told me her timetable, what she needed, and asked me to "buy."

I did.

And most email marketing is little different.

She knew her market, used language that would appeal to me, set a deadline, used a call to action, and asked me to buy.

This will be a very different photography session for me.

I have photographed Liz many times: in shows, for her music CD (at http://LizSeymour.com), and for theater.

This will be very different.

And I'm glad.

Writing Online - Take You To A New Level Financially

Copy Writing Is A Valuable Skill To Learn

Dan Kennedy and Bill Glazer of Glazer Kennedy Insiders' Circle say that knowing how to write good "copy" is one of the most valuable and profitable skills around.

Right: Learn how to Write.

It's not that difficult when you know what you're doing.

Have you ever been in a situation when you just weren't comfortable with what you were to do? Did you do it well while feeling like that?

If you're like most of us, you didn't. And I don't blame you.

Always afraid you'd do the wrong thing. Afraid you'd say the wrong thing. Afraid you'd look stupid in front of other people.

But what if you knew the tips, tricks, shortcuts and lessons? What if someone showed you how to do it, saving you all the time you needed to go out to learn it by yourself?

Quite a great way to make money, don't you think?

I've done just that. WEEKS of long hours and hard work result in Say It So They Buy It and it's the closest way to make money from your words that I know. No MBA; no going back to college; no long hours of study and trial and error.

Even just the "sales letter" is a lesson, a path to follow, a system for creating your next materials.

Go take a look right now, while you're thinking about it. Discover how easy and successful this is.

Turn Your Words Into Gold - Go here now to find out more!

Let me know what you think. Even if you decide it's not right for you, be sure to study that sales page - so much revealed in how it's put together.

Do Not Follow The Crowd In Your Marketing

See What Everyone Else Is Doing And Do The Opposite

Here's what I told a major foundation when consulting with them:

Renowned marketer and best-selling author, Dan Kennedy, writes in his May 2009 NO BS Newsletter, “The majority in your business, industry, or profession are wrong about most – if not all – of their beliefs about how to be successful in that business, industry, or profession.”

He says that while that is difficult to grasp, the numbers tell the story and always have. 1% are rich, 4% prosperous, 15% doing well, 40% sustaining mediocrity, and 40% doing poorly. Overall these success statistics never change: recessions or booms, new technology breakthroughs or not, these have remained constant.

“You may, however, choose to move from one group to another using your ambition, thinking, information, initiative, and effort. But regardless of YOUR choices, the fact that the majority of your peers are dead-wrong won’t change a whit.

“Associations matter a lot, but they are or can be chosen. The first critical decision for upward movement is to ALWAYS distrust the majority... To see a majority stampeding north and stubbornly turn south. Not easy at all.”

If you are like everyone else, no one will see that YOU are their solution. Do your OWN thing. Create marketing that represents your unique outlook. Work with people who are smarter than you and more successful than you and just by associating with them, YOU will be better too!

And be sure to turbo charge everything you do to get the most from it.

Selling: Only One Way To Make It Work In This New Economy

How Do You Sell Correctly?

You must align with the strong personal interests of your buyers, investors, contributors.

Notice I didn’t say that they should align themselves with YOUR interests and programs... they will only join you IF they feel that you are aligned with THEIR strong interests.

You must align yourself with a person’s driving, highest, most burning, most passionate personal interest.

Sell to their compulsions, emotions, deeply-set connections to what they feel they were put on this Earth to do.

And be sure to turbo charge everything you do to get the most from it.

Your Health Or Your Business?

Wearing a Heart Monitor is a Wake-Up Item

I believe I set my own destiny. I don't believe others who say, "my temper is bad" because they belong to a certain ethnic group or "I'm getting fat because" whatever excuse they come up with other than eating too much.

So when I say "I'm a man and don't go to the doctor very often" I'm falling into the same trap.

But I had myself believing that.

So when the chest tighten, a burning sensation from the heart area down my left arm, and wild beating and pounding, I dragged my sorry rear end to my primary care physician (not sure we're even allowed to SAY "doctor" any more), and she sent me to a cardiologist.

Well... she SUGGESTED that I go to one and so I selected the one who works with both Mom and Dad, figuring he will know my family "history" pretty well.

Today I'm wearing a heart monitor 24/7 and will for several days. It hasn't gone off many times, so it's really not finding much.

And when friends asked me "what did the cardiologist say" after my first appointment, I focused on what he did NOT say - he did NOT say "get to the emergency room right now!" (That would have been a bit frightening!!)

I really think I need more exercise. Here I sit tapping away to you and I'm not out walking, running, playing tennis. I did, however, just start a new marketing series designed to combine my walking around the neighborhood with talking about marketing, and you can see it here: Charlie Seymour Jr's WalkAbout Marketing - Click Here!

Soon I'll get an echo cardiogram and a stress test... it's been years since I had either and though I really don't think they'll find anything, it will put my mind at ease.

I think the pounding one night was from the cappuccino and all that caffeine. I think the tightening in my chest is from limited exercise, and my walking twice a week is helping.

But since the first symptom of heart problems for most people is DEATH (yep, you read that right - most people don't get a second chance with this), I wanted to be sure to do the right thing for myself and my family.

So, I'll be a good patient and do what the doctor says.

After all, I go to marketing specialists when I need help, I suggest that to you as well, so I need to pay attention to the specialist I'm going to when he tells me what to do.

No matter if we're stuck in the rat race working for someone else or enjoying the freedom of working for ourselves, we do need to take care of our bodies.

Hope you will too!

Why do Some People Have More Credibility And Infulence Than Others?

Building Credibility Is Paramount Before Getting New Business

Credibility stems from that elusive thing called perception.

People’s perception of you may be based on what they hear others say about you, the way you talk and act, or their previous experience with you.

Credibility is based on a track record - either real or perceived.

Those who are most credible over the long haul -

- tell the truth
- do what they say they will and when they say they will
- behave consistency - their actions match their words
- show concern and compassion for others
- demonstrate knowledge and skill in their field
- exercise good judgment and make good decisions for all concerned
- stand strong on their values (while not rubbing them in others faces)
- motivate others to be and do the best they can

Cheering on others as they strive toward their goals can be really important too.

Think about it: how do YOU feel when someone is "in your corner" helping you, motivating you, cheering you on for your successes?

Pretty important to do!

Twitter For Business

Twitter is a great part of the marketing system for business

Too many people don’t understand how to use Twitter for business, but that hasn’t stopped them from blogging about it. Most of them just want to play or know they are on the internet, but when it comes to business, there are some specific steps you should take to take you from the rat race and get you zooming with success.

Twitter, the micro-blog that lets you send 140 characters across the Internet and around the world to anyone who has followed you (and then be resent (ReTweeted) by others), is a highly-targeted tool for marketers (and not just online marketers) – and it works well with other social media marketing tools like Facebook, bookmarking, and blogging.

For those of us old enough to remember party-line telephones, it’s like listening in on the conversations of your neighbors and then adding to their chat only when you have something that applies to them. No need to send messages about photography to people interested in politics or television. So in THIS way, Twitter lets you laser-target your messages and get those who are interested in what you have to say to respond.

For me (and I admit there are other ways to approach this though this is the best I have seen), I have 10 Twitter accounts, each based around specific keywords. For some of my accounts I’m building a list of followers who are interested in businesses I already have operating - I'm building the list to sell get them interested in my websites and the products I have. For others, I’m building lists around topics that interest me and will figure out later how I will monetize them.

After all, having a LIST of interested prospects is the most important part of marketing and running our businesses. That's forgotten by many people, but it is.

So, with that as prologue, my top 37 steps that you should take immediately to use Twitter for your business are detailed on my blog. Twitter: Read My Blog Here!

Also, if this short movie can help, let us know. And if there is something we can do to assist you when you're working from home, let us know that too.

Helping The Laid-Off - Some Dos and Don'ts

Philadelphia Inquirer recognizes that 13.2 million have been fired and it offers these pointers!

There aren't many of us left.

Many of us who haven't been fired or have a family member who has been fired or know someone well who has been fired.

It's tough out there!

And as you face the prospect that YOU might be fired (or as you pick up more work because others around you are no longer there yet the work has to get done), The Philadelphia Inquirer writer Jane M. Von Bergen offers some Dos and Don'ts.

A colleague returns to his desk, white as a ghost. A friend or relative calls with the bad news. You son's summer baseball league coach was just fired. What do you do?

DO acknowledge the loss. Losing a job is as traumatic for some people as the death of a close relative. "I heard the news. I'm very sorry."

Don't just ignore it - someone who assumes you know will feel hurt that you didn't say something.

Even if you feel awkward, saying something is better than saying nothing at all.

And remember: you may be next and you sure want some help getting through this miserable time.

No one ever goes through this without some remaining scars. And we need other people to help us.

So, if others around you are being fired, extend the comfort of caring by expressing your feelings - don't hold back.

And if you decide to get out BEFORE it happens to you, plan what you'll do when gone. Don't want to be "on your own" and THEN decide.

If this short movie can help, let us know. And if there is something we can do to assist you when you're working from home, let us know that too.

Rat Race - Does Prayer Really Work?

If You're Struggling At Work, Have You Turned To Prayer?

DOES PRAYER REALLY WORK?*

Ask those who have been healed of cancer.
Ask soldiers who fought a war and returned to tell about it.

Ask those intellectuals who’ve studied philosophies around the world and found peace only in personal faith.
Ask those who’ve raised great kids while living in Harlem.

Ask those who now love a spouse when once there was hatred and disgust.
Ask those whose businesses have made a dramatic turnaround, from bankruptcy to success.

Ask those who’ve been penniless and now live in luxury.
Ask those who’ve been guilty and now feel forgiven.

Ask those who’ve been bitter and now feel love.

- - - - - - -

And yes... ask those who have been lifted from the Rat Race, shown a new way of life, and have picked themselves up to make things happen again in their lives.

I invite you to watch my short movie: Take Me From The Rat Race. Do you see yourself in it? Are you looking for a change?

Could your prayers be answered with some help?

Please let me know.

Rat Race, Broccoli, and Being Yourself

Work At Home: Is What You're Looking For Compatible With Who You Are?

When I was a youngster, my mother occasionally cooked liver for dinner. It happens to be one of my most unpleasant childhood memories. I simply could not force myself to eat this meal no matter how many times she cooked it or how often I tried to pretend it was something else. (And if she cooked Lima Beans along with it... uggggg, I'd race from the table to the toilet to empty my mouth.)

Some people dislike broccoli, others cringe over cherry pie, and my younger daughter dislikes carrots. I had to contend with liver - dry, shoe-leather-like liver.

And when dining out with my folks now (Mom's in her late 80s) and she orders liver and onions (when she could have had ANYTHING on the menu), I'm still amazed!

Why does this matter? Because being forced to enjoy a dinner of liver is like forcing yourself to change personalities.

Dr. David Niven’s 2002 book, The 100 Secrets of Successful People: What Scientists Have Learned and How You Can Use It, makes this point beautifully.

Dr. Niven points outs, “Certain jobs require a distinct personality. There is little point in pursuing a job in communications if you are not an extroverted person who loves to interact with people.

"If your soul bursts with passionate creativity, you are not likely to be content with a job in accounting.

"Personalities are like shoe sizes. They are not subject to our choice or preference, but they can be occasionally fudged - with uncomfortable consequences.”

Truly successful people got that way, in part, by following their natural talents.

Some people are terrific speakers who can engage audiences of thousands and motivate them to action. I, for one, have always found getting up in front of an audience enjoyable - whether in a play, as Student Council President in Jr. High, Sr. High, or College. Others cannot fathom stepping into the limelight and find the though more terrifying that death itself.

Some people enjoy working in solitude; others must have the activity of people buzzing about. Neither is right or wrong. We are simply different.

The path to success begins by first understanding who you are — recognizing your true personality – and choosing a career path that fits with your natural talents.

Are you doing that as you contemplate making a change? Were you well-suited to your work when working for others and is your personality fit for working by yourself?

Think about it - being happy is VERY important to your life and health.

And once you decide, then follow your heart with all your strength.

Leave the Rat Race behind and follow that Dream!

Work At Home But DON'T Be Average

Successful Entrepreneurs Keep Working Hard

Average people say, “Don’t stand out. Don’t work so hard. You’re ok as you are.”

Seriously, if you've ever worked in an office and started really producing results, hasn't SOMEONE dropped by your desk to ask you why you're working to make everyone else seem bad?

WHAT? Your good work makes THEM seem bad and they want you to slow down?

When working with lots of other people or working from home, following this line of thinking you run the risk of sacrificing your individuality, your goals, and the very ideas that make you unique.

In the end, your life is determined by group preferences...and this is certainly not the path to success for most of us.

Do you hear the clock ticking on your dreams? Do you find yourself wondering when you’re going to get "there," or why you aren’t "there" yet?

Achieving success has no restrictions. Anyone, of any age, can find success.

Like Thomas Edison, who saw his thousands of failures as successes because each failure taught him what did not work, achieving success is not something you can predict. It happens when it happens, and no matter what age you might be when you get "there," you will enjoy it.

Maybe playing by others' rules is what is fencing you in, keeping you from succeeding.

Pretty funny looking back on it, but I remember a very good client calling me to tell me that when I work with friend of his (another client of mine) I shouldn't charge so much for my photography services. "You just can't charge that much, Charlie."

WHAT?!!

When you analyze that, he was really saying that HE wouldn't be comfortable charging that much if he were in my shoes.

But since I don't march to someone else's drummer and since my business is going quite well, I establish my own rules and pricing and people who want me to photograph for them know up-front how I operate.

Are you looking for that freedom too? Perhaps this short movie will speak directly to you:

Take Me From The Rat Race - Please Watch This Short Video - Click Here.

By the way, I got exactly what I expected to get from that other client... and they LOVED my work.

Now Is The Time To Build

Successful Entrepreneurs Don't Stop

What would have happened if Noah waited for the rain before he started to build?

Hmmmmm.... I wonder how many two-by-two pairs would have remained alive.

And what will happen to entrepreneurs if they don't build their businesses before the new economy turns around?

They'll be washed away just as Noah's friends and animal companions would have been had he not taken the correct steps to move forward.

Successful entrepreneurs are working extra hard right now to be ready. Sure it takes extra effort, but successful people are willing to do what the unsuccessful ones aren't - and being ready when things turn around is one way to accomplish that.

But don't think people have stopped buying. Don't allow your rat race environment cloud your thinking - lots of money is still changing hands... and your job is to get in the middle of all of it.

Did you see the statistics about how many more people are deciding to work from home? Work at home dads. Work at home moms. It's a whole new mindset, but you can do it with some help.

If you're thinking about it, Please Watch This Short Video - Take Me From The Rat Race - Click Here.

This will work. Don't let others decide your future for you.

Choosing Your Own Path For Work

Take Charge Of Your Life

My wife is terrific at what she does: computer-aided-design for large pharmaceutical plants. Processing lines, offices, major complexes, rehabs.

She even went to Basel, Switzerland last year for three weeks to work on a project that will be built in Singapore.

Do you get the feeling she works for a large, international company?

And she loves her work. And they seem to love her (she's been there for 11 years).

But she worries about lack of work at the moment. The pharmaceutical companies are hurting. Patents are running out. People are holding back on spending. Stock prices have plummeted. Fewer expansion projects are on the drawing board (well, the computer screen, these days).

But my wife loves the security of a regular paycheck. She could no more be an entrepreneur than fly.

My dad was the same way: he was a Real Estate Appraiser and Counselor and though he helped to bring in the large assignments he worked on (including the largest appraisal in the world: the Penn Central Railroad, which he led, he would have died if he had had to be a salesman, the way I was).

One time I worked 3.5 years on a project (The Curtis Center in Philadelphia, PA USA - across the street from Independence Hall). 1,000,000 square feet. Former home of Curtis Publishing: Saturday Evening Post, Ladies Home Journal, Jack and Jill, and more. Beautiful old building whose time for rehab had come.

3.5 years and I didn't earn a dime. Was paid nothing. Had to survive on my own.

Until...

Until settlement day. And the payoff was huge to me, my company, and the owner. And Philadelphia now has a beautiful, historical office building with a gorgeous lobby complete with a Maxfield Parrish, Tiffany glass mosaic.

But if I had given up, where would all of this have been? Heck, the idea for the transformation was mine. The owner wanted to sell and I showed him how to transform the building and created drawings to show others.

And all this time, though I worked for a large real estate company, I was a work at home dad - I seldom was in the office in Center City - couldn't make any money sitting in there!

So use this as a lesson: don't give up, take charge, take control of your life. If you love what you're doing now, GREAT! If not, it's time to believe in yourself and make a change.

Perhaps a work at home career is right for you too? Let me know.

Will You Stay In The Rat Race Or Take Charge

Do You Feel Helpless Or Can You Leave The Rat Race For Your Work At Home Work?

Seems to me in life you are part of the problem or part of the solution. Willing to teach people how to treat you or get walked over. The flow of the river or merely a rock in the riverbed.

Do you let the river flow over you hardly creating a ripple? Hardly making your own wake? Hardly ever letting those around you know you exist?

Do people all go around you or do you get in the river and make things happen?

Are you ready to stand up for yourself, take charge, not wait for "them" to "do it to you"?

You see all of those people leaving your company - they've either been fired or they're taking charge and leaving on their own to work at home.

You can do this. Maybe it's not what you are used to doing (standing up for yourself so boldly). I remember how put off some people were when I told them I was going to work at home as an entrepreneur.

"How can you do that? I could NEVER do that!"

Oh, yes you can!

Set your goals. Set your calendar. And take the plunge. Now might be just the perfect time.

Do you keep hearing people say that the savior of our economy is small business? People with good ideas? Self-employed leaders to take charge?

I believe they are right. Come join us. Save at least a part of this economy.

Do You Think President Obama Likes The Rat Race?

OK... so President Obama hasn't been in office long enough for a routine to set it. Meetings, dressing up, being photographed, trips, and precious little time with his family.

But since he works at home, Gayle King on Good Morning American called him today a Work At Home Dad.

When does the newness rub off? When does he get tired of all of that?

Unlike you and me, probably never for a guy like him.

But you and I don't have all those trappings, people waiting on us, people standing when we walk into a room.

So we get tired of the Rat Race pretty easily, especially these days of high commuting expenses, meals, parking... to say nothing about all those boring meetings!

So, if you're looking for some help, a way to get OFF the Rat Race Carousel, maybe this can help: http://TakeMeFromTheRatRace.com.

Is it YOUR time to say Take Me From The Rat Race?

How long have you worked there? Hard to remember at times, isn't it.

When you've been asked to pitch in, you're there. When others were fired, you were spared but then had to take on much more work at no additional pay. You like the work, but hate that commute and all those expenses of working there.

Is it time to take control? YOU decide when and where you'll work? Not wait for the next shoe to drop when the company calls you in, says it's "not personal, only business" and then they fire you too?
